Ashlinn Pennell (she/her)

Ashlinn is a first year MSc student in Experimental Psychology under the goal supervision of Dr. Ashley Balsom and Dr. Chris Quinn-Nilas. She is born and raised in St. John’s. When she’s not in the Psycle Lab, you can find her at a local cafe, walking in the woods, or spending time with her two cats, Link and Ponyo.

My Story

Ashlinn completed her B.A. with a joint honours in Psychology and Religious Studies at Memorial University in 2025, where she worked gained diverse research experience in psychology, religious studies, and medicine. Her honours thesis explored the prevalence and predictors of a lesser-known manifestation of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, known colloquially as “Schizophrenia OCD.” Under the supervision of Dr. Balsom, Ashlinn’s masters research will centre on weight stigma as a barrier to accessing fertility treatment, examining attitudes within the public and among healthcare practitioners. Her research interests include anxiety and related disorders, women’s health, adverse childhood experiences, and accessible & appropriate healthcare for marginalized communities.
